Over the years the number 7 jersey has been consumed by players at the very height of the game. Usually worn by players with skill, trickery and danger who tend to be a natural pacey winger, however, this is not always the case.
Here I am going to provide the top 7 most prominent Soccer Players Who Wore the Number 7 Jersey.
Number 1. Cristiano Ronaldo
Strangely, this could be the most controversial player on this list as Cristiano Ronaldo has not always worn this number. When he first joined Real Madrid, for the 1st few years, he wore the number 9 shirt because club legend Raul held that number. Then after a few seasons, he took the number 7 and is now most definitely the best ever footballer to wear the number. He did also where the shirt when Sir Alex Ferguson gave him the number 7 and now currently wears it for Juventus.

Number 2. Franck Ribery – the man with the famous scar
Bayern Munich legend Franck Ribery who now at the age of 37 still plays football for Italian side Fiorentina. He has been always recognised for his low centre of gravity, his agility and his lightning quick feet. In 273 appearances, he scored 86 goals and had over 90 assists.
Number 3. The best George Best
George Best wore the number 7 for 141 games whilst at Manchester United, with one of the games most memorably coming in the European Cup Final, where they beat Benfica. He also wore the shirt predominantly when playing for Northern Ireland’s National Team. In this spell, Best was the best of them all with football legend Pele calling Best “the greatest player in the world”.
Number 4. Bend it like Beckham
Number 4 is another Manchester United legend, David Beckham. He wore the number 7 shirt, but was a very different player to any of the above. The other 3 above on this list were/are out and out wingers who like to dribble direct and score cutting in of the wing. David Beckham was more of a finesse/ playmaker who dictated the midfield and wide areas of the pitch. He played 265 games for the red devils before moving to Real Madrid in 2003 where he also wore the number 7 shirt.
Number 5. The Portuguese star Luis Figo
Luis Figo is regarded in football as being one of the best ever right wingers. He too adorned the number 7 shirt. He was renowned for his creativity and ability to ghost past defenders. He has 106 assists, the second highest in La Liga behind just Lionel Messi and he won the Ballon d’Or in 2000. He made over 350 appearances for Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona combined, before moving on to Inter Milan where he spent the last 4 years of his career.
Number 6. King Kenny
Kenny Dalglish was signed to replace another Liverpool legend who wore the number 7. He was an orchestra to Liverpool’s team during the 70’s and 80’s, making 355 appearances and scoring 118 goals as a forward. He is now well deservingly classed in the Liverpool Hall of Fame. Not only did he play for the reds; but he also managed the club for 2 separate stints.
Number 7. The French king Eric Cantona
Eric Cantona was Manchester United’s number 7 from between the 1992-1997 seasons playing with flair and arrogance. He is very high up on the list of famous number 7’s for Manchester United, but is probably most well known for his “kung-fu kick” on a Crystal Palace fan after he received abuse when walking off the pitch.
